Pastor Mickey Stephens was born in Atlanta Georgia. At the age of 5 he moved to Bowie, MD in Prince George’s County where he was raised. He has two siblings, one younger brother, Mark who is the Maryland State Director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Frederick, MD. He has one younger sister, Ellen who works at the YMCA as a Water Aerobics Instructor. His parents are retired government workers. His father worked as a computer analyst at NSA. His mother was an Administrative Assistant for several scientists at the Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, MD.
Pastor Mickey has a BS degree in Social Science from Frostburg State University. He also has a BA degree in Pastoral Theology from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. In addition, he has done one year of graduate work at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
Pastor Mickey is a single adult with two sons, Joshua 25 and Micah 21. His sweet, devoted wife, Cheryl Capobianco Stephens was from Catonsville, MD and passed away from cancer after 19 years of marriage. Indeed there is no doubt that she was my better half and was a dynamic, Godly, devoted Christian wife, mother and church member.
Pastor Mickey has pastored several churches in OH, WV and MD. He has over 30 years of pastoral experience. He is delighted to be returning to GMCC for the second time after about a 7 ½ year interval. His spiritual gifts are teaching, encouragement, leadership, discernment, and he is known for a strong pulpit ministry proclaiming the inspired, infallible Word of God.
Testimony & Calling
I grew up as a child in a Southern Baptist Church. As a teenager, I fell away and became rebellious. I went off to college and began seeking the meaning and purpose of life. I got involved in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship on campus. As a result, I realized that I was lost and had broken God’s Holy Law and stood in need of God’s grace available through the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, I was powerless to manage my own life and needed God’s forgiveness and mercy to free me from my guilt. At that time I repented of my sin and surrendered my life to become a follower of Christ. God gave me the hunger for the truth and after reading through the Bible several times, I sensed a leading of the Holy Spirit for a call to ministry and full-time Christian service. I have been involved in several churches as youth director, pastor and senior pastor over the past 30 years.
My favorite life verse is Galatians 2:20 and one of my favorite statements is, WOW, HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!!!
